First trip to Grand Canyon...

First Canyon
Oil on Canvas
16 x 20
January 2008
$350
WOW...This GA girl had only imagined how unbelievably impressive this canyon is! I was snapping pictures like crazy so I could remember and paint what I was seeing. This is the first in hopefully a series. The morning light was so beautiful and the shadows were so deep and blue...AND it was COLD! I learned a few new processes in creating this and I was taught by a master of Canyon Images. My teacher for the past year is Ross Myers and he is so patient and willing to help me grow as a painter. I am so lucky to have stumbled into his class. If you want to see a master check out www.rossmyersfineart.com.

Impressionism Practice...

Still Life with 3 vases
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14
January 2008
$275
I finally revisited the lesson mentioned in an earlier post about Still Lifes. I know that means you are to set up the arrangement you like and then paint what you see BUT since I don't like rules, I just made this up in my head and let it show up on the canvas. It was fun!

Arizona memories...

Desert Drive
Oil on Canvas
8 x 8
December 2007
NFS
This was one of those quick, flow out of the brush onto the canvas paintings that happens sometimes and I am always amazed and honored when they do!
I was wondering what to give my love that could let him know how much I appreciate all the trips he plans for us. We had recently spent a wonderful week in Phoenix and then drove up through Sedona to the Grand Canyon. This was the result.

More Georgia Memories...

Cockspur Lighthouse
Oil on Canvas
8 x 8
January 2008
$75
This little beacon rests off to the north of the road to Tybee Island and always lets us know we are almost there. The
community relit it in the recent past and it makes me smile to see it. The funny story about this painting is that I created it by window light one of the days we were without power because of the big ice storm. As I was working on it, Bill commented that it was appropriate for me to painting a "Warm Scene"!

What to give a 14 year old boy?

Will's Passion

Oil on Canvas

11 x 14

December 2007

NFS

This is the ultimate SPORTS kid....and football has become his favorite! He was surprised , and I think pleased, with this gift from my heart.

Oh my, another attempt at flowers!

Purple Flowers
Oil on Canvas
16 x 20
November 2007
Donated
I just love flowers...this was another attempt to express that love. I mention that this painting was donated. Originally it was given to a sale to benefit THE NORTH MABEE Boys and Girls Club of Tulsa, but alas, it did not sell. As a backup, I agreed to forward it on to a great program here in Tulsa called ART FROM THE HEART. It gives framed original paintings done by local artists to residents of community-based housing. Anyone interested can contact M. Graham at the Tulsa Housing Authority 918-581-5985.

Still learning...

Still Life with Peach
(Aycock Class)
Oil on Canvas
16 x 20
NFS
My best friend from Atlanta (since we were 14!) visited us in Tulsa this fall and we spent the weekend in a private class with Tulsa Artist, Margaret Aycock. Her work can be seen at www.midwest-fine-art.com. This was a fast and furious lesson in impressionism and it was a blast. It became a gift for my sister.

A special place...

Cedar Key
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14
November 2007
nfs
This little fishing village is on the West Coast of Florida and has been a sanctuary of my family for years. There are many memories of visits here and so I painted this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. We were just there this past week for an overnight visit and it was wonderful to share it with Bill.

This one makes me feel warm...

Linen Press

Oil on Canvas

16 x 20

October 2007

NFS

This image caught my eye in a book we have of old houses and interiors and I knew I needed to paint it. The patterns and textures were fun to create and I'm sure the box on top contains love letters!

Now a real person...

Quapaw Woman
Oil on Canvas
12 x 16
Summer 2007
$275
It was time to learn how to do a face. We found a line drawing, labeled Oldest Quapaw, and I knew that she was the one to learn on. It took most of the summer for me to find her in my paints....I think she is beautiful!

More leftover paint...

The Gatherer
Oil on Canvas
5 x 5
$75
I just wanted to try a person...my friend Judy says it is me! Maybe in a past life?

San Antonio inspiration...

Alamo Wall
Oil on Canvas
8 x 10
Summer 2007
nfs
We took a few days to visit San Antonio and see the Alamo. The grounds are so beautiful and this is the wall to the right of the entrance. Creating the painting was lots of fun and was done wet on wet to see if I could be "loose" with my brush and paints. I think I managed to do just that. I was most honored when my sweet Mom in law selected this painting to be the background image on her computer! Needless to say, the original is now at her house in Houston.

A couple of years ago...

Always Together
(3 seperate paintings)
Oil on Canvas
5x5's
Created in 2005
nfs
I wanted to give my love something special and I had bought some paints to play with. These are the results and , although they are simplistic attempts, they were created with love and that makes them special.

Playing around

Blue Sky
Oil on Canvas Panel
12 x 12
$275
Sometimes, as I work on a painting in class, I play around with the lesson at home. This was the result of doing some of the techniques I was learning while creating the Blue Shed. This is strictly out of my head....maybe some memory of my North Carolina lineage.

West of Santa Fe

Blue Shed

Oil on Canvas

11 x 14

April 2007

$275

This was inspired by the day trip we took driving west out of Santa Fe and looping through the mountains south. These western sites are a new thing for this Georgia girl so I am soaking them up. In creating this painting, I learned about atmosphere and it's affects on the distant

vistas. What fun!

What to do with leftover paint?

Quilt
Oil on Canvas
12 x 24
May 2007
nfs
I am always mixing too much paint on the palette and then feeling guilty for being wasteful....so this is the solution. It is whimsical and I like to think of it as an homage to my ancestors who were quilters...mainly my Aunt Gladys and my grandmother Laura.

Santa Fe Inspired...

Pepper Truck
Oil on canvas
14 x 18
April 2007
nfs
This is one of my favorites. I wish I had actually seen this truck with the person selling the peppers but I have to admit that it is a copy of a photographic image from a book about Santa Fe. I learned about using contrast and glazes to bring out the peppers and that was fun.

This one was fun...

Orange Marsh
Oil on Canvas
11 x 14
March 2007
$275

This was a painting that just flowed out of the brush...it was amazing to see it actually happening. It is a self created composition inspired by a sunset photograph seen on the internet.
