I know it sounds funny to people who know me, but it is increasingly hard to get that camera out and photograph my paintings! No excuse, I just seem to put it off another day and then I realize it has been months! Per requests, I promise to get some images up soon~L.

Warm, humid, sultry Savannah... a great place to be. The inspiration image for this painting was taken last spring and now, finally, the results of a feeble attempt to capture the feeling of this little spot. I expect to be revisiting Savannah in the future, both physically and with my paints.

WOW...This GA girl had only imagined how unbelievably impressive this canyon is! I was snapping pictures like crazy so I could remember and paint what I was seeing. This is the first in hopefully a series. The morning light was so beautiful and the shadows were so deep and blue...AND it was COLD! I learned a few new processes in creating this and I was taught by a master of Canyon Images. My teacher for the past year is Ross Myers and he is so patient and willing to help me grow as a painter. I finally revisited the lesson mentioned in an earlier post about Still Lifes. I know that means you are to set up the arrangement you like and then paint what you see BUT since I don't like rules, I just made this up in my head and let it show up on the canvas. It was fun!

This was one of those quick, flow out of the brush onto the canvas paintings that happens sometimes and I am always amazed and honored when they do!

I was wondering what to give my love that could let him know how much I appreciate all the trips he plans for us. We had recently spent a wonderful week in Phoenix and then drove up through Sedona to the Grand Canyon. This was the result.

This little beacon rests off to the north of the road to Tybee Island and always lets us know we are almost there. The

community relit it in the recent past and it makes me smile to see it. The funny story about this painting is that I created it by window light one of the days we were without power because of the big ice storm. As I was working on it, Bill commented that it was appropriate for me to painting a "Warm Scene"!

I just love flowers...this was another attempt to express that love. I mention that this painting was donated. Originally it was given to a sale to benefit THE NORTH MABEE Boys and Girls Club of Tulsa, but alas, it did not sell. As a backup, I agreed to forward it on to a great program here in Tulsa called ART FROM THE HEART. It gives framed original paintings done by local artists to residents of community-based housing. Anyone interested can contact M. Graham at the Tulsa Housing Authority 918-581-5985.

My best friend from Atlanta (since we were 14!) visited us in Tulsa this fall and we spent the weekend in a private class with Tulsa Artist, Margaret Aycock. This little fishing village is on the West Coast of Florida and has been a sanctuary of my family for years. There are many memories of visits here and so I painted this as a Christmas gift for my daughter. We were just there this past week for an overnight visit and it was wonderful to share it with Bill.

It was time to learn how to do a face. We found a line drawing, labeled Oldest Quapaw, and I knew that she was the one to learn on. It took most of the summer for me to find her in my paints....I think she is beautiful!

We took a few days to visit San Antonio and see the Alamo. The grounds are so beautiful and this is the wall to the right of the entrance. Creating the painting was lots of fun and was done wet on wet to see if I could be "loose" with my brush and paints. I think I managed to do just that. I was most honored when my sweet Mom in law selected this painting to be the background image on her computer! Needless to say, the original is now at her house in Houston.

This was inspired by the day trip we took driving west out of Santa Fe and looping through the mountains south. These western sites are a new thing for this Georgia girl so I am soaking them up. In creating this painting, I learned about atmosphere and it's affects on the distant

I am always mixing too much paint on the palette and then feeling guilty for being wasteful....so this is the solution. It is whimsical and I like to think of it as an homage to my ancestors who were quilters...mainly my Aunt Gladys and my grandmother Laura.

This is one of my favorites. I wish I had actually seen this truck with the person selling the peppers but I have to admit that it is a copy of a photographic image from a book about Santa Fe. I learned about using contrast and glazes to bring out the peppers and that was fun.

OH MY...I just thought painting was easy. My first attempt at flowers and I just had to struggle. There were remakes to the container, roses became hydrangeas and vice versa...the layers of paint are actually visible! HA...the teacher finally said, "I think you just need to call this complete and move on". SO, I gave it to my MOM 'cause I knew she would love it just because I did it.

This is in the tidewaters off Tybee Island, Georgia. Captain Brian always brings us to this spot and it is beautiful! The rickety john boat was my addition to the scene since I could imagine one was probably pulled up there by us in one of our other lifetimes. I learned how to mix lots of BLUES and GREENS and to learn to see that the atmosphere does affect the things we see in the distance. Fun!

This is the very first painting created in the class. My inspiration came from a cooking supply catalog and this subject was selected for it's simplicity...plus I loved the warmth of the wood. I learned some basics about shading, some tricks about glazes but mostly I let myself know that I can do this!
